In John Toth's new book, No Turning Back: The Story of a Woman and Her Young Son Who Slipped Through the Iron Curtain at the Peak of Communism, we get a sneak peek into the life of a young ten-year-old boy (John Toth) in Budapest, Hungary, back in the 1960s during the Soviet reign of communism.

The book begins by staging the daily lives of his family and their hardships living in an oppressed society. The reader quickly gets sucked in by John's matter-of-fact account of the situation and his social commentary on the characters.

John's mother devises a plan to get herself and young John out of Hungary and into Austria via a risky train ride across the border, leaving you white-knuckled until they get safely into Austria.

John's book is hopeful and inspiring, with poignant and joyful moments that will leave you in tears. It weaves the excitement and the difficulties of a new country, culture, and language throughout the story, layering Austrian and Hungarian subtleties. For romance lovers, there is even an innocent romance that slowly develops between two of the characters.

This is a summer must-read book!
